Matt Knuppel joined St. John Lutheran’s staff in February 2019 as a temporary pastoral intern, or “vicar.” A native of Roanoke, VA, Matt earned his B.S. in Strategic Communications from Liberty University and has recently completed his seminary studies at the North American Lutheran Seminary in Ambridge, PA. Matt was inspired to pursue ordained ministry during his time in the U.S. Navy, where he became well acquainted with military chaplaincy.

As a “pastor-in-training,” Matt has a strong desire to bring the love and presence of Christ to others through his ministry. In particular, Matt has a passion for early Christian wisdom and how it can bring the modern Christian into a deeper relationship with God.

Outside of St. John Lutheran, Matt’s hobbies include weightlifting, hiking, sporting clays, reading, and writing.
