Confirmation Discipleship Process

What is “confirmation?”

Confirmation is a  dynamic year long process that equips youth to grow as disciples of Christ and empowers them to take their place in Jesus’ life-changing movement of the Church.

What is the significance of confirmation?

Confirmation is an intentional mentoring process to help youth examine the essence of the Christian faith and empower them to become full members in the Body of Christ.

The confirmation process is designed for youth to be:

  • Rooted in the truth of God’s Word, sound Lutheran doctrine, and the apostolic tradition of the Church
  • Transformed through relationship with Christ, Christian community, and mentors
  • Empowered to participate in Christian community, mission, and spiritual disciplines

Confirmation is more of a springboard for an adventurous life of discipleship rather than a religious obligation.

Following the year-long confirmation process, participants are confirmed by making a public affirmation of faith in our worship services. This gives youth a chance to publicly profess their faith, "confirm" the promises made at baptism (for youth who were baptized as infants), and for the congregation to celebrate and encourage their desire to live as devoted disciples of Christ.

Who is confirmation for?

Confirmation is open to any youth in high school who desires to take the risk of learning to follow Jesus!  Most people do this in ninth grade, but we've had all age groups involved.

When does confirmation meet?

We have been meeting on Sunday mornings, but have found the need for youth to meet in a separate, intentional time to better fulfill the vision of confirmation.   Starting in the fall of 2011, we will begin the process with an overnight retreat in the mountains and then meet once a month on Sunday afternoons (either 4-6:30pm with dinner or 12:30-3pm with lunch) until the process concludes with a faith hike and dinner celebration with your family.

You will need to fill out the confirmation covenant by Aug. 31st and complete the entire process to be confirmed.

What is the schedule and content?

The following are the times and themes for confirmation.  There is a more detailed description of each on the back of the confirmation covenant.
