As a community of women created in the image
of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy
Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one
another in our callings, engage in ministry and action and promote healing and
wholeness in the church, society and the world.
As a Women of the ELCA (WELCA) unit at St. John
Lutheran Church, we are involved in a number of ministries:
We support the Virginia Synod Women's Organization
by attending special gatherings and the annual convention. Additionally, we
send Christmas cards to residents of Brandon Oaks Health Care Facility; decorate
the church and tree for Christmas; sponsor the May birthday party at Brandon
Oaks Health Care Facility; contribute to the Brandon Oaks Fall Festival; and
collect items for Lutheran Family Service school kits.
All women of St. John and their friends are welcome
to any or all of our monthly meetings. We usually meet on the second Tuesday for
a devotional study program, fellowship and refreshments.
If there are any special programs or projects that
you would like to suggest, please contact the St. John Women of the ELCA
President.
