In
June, the
Reverend Roger S. Kluttz became the fourth pastor of St. John. He remained
pastor until 1987.
In 1975, St.
John became a sponsoring agent through the Lutheran Immigration Service as part
of the refugee resettlement program. The Nguyen family came to St. John in
the summer and lived temporarily with the Zane Koch family. The
congregation assisted them in finding employment, enrolling the children in
school, and contributed money and gifts to help them adjust to life in
America. They moved to California to be near family after a year in
Roanoke.

Carillon
Bells were donated by the Higginbotham family. In 1979, the
congregation moved from the "red" hymnal to the green Lutheran Book
