In the Community

Benevolence Ministry

This team meets monthly to review requests for food and financial assistance and see where we can help. The team cooraltdinates their efforts with the Roanoke Area Emergency Service Providers. Shepherd: Bill Hunter

Habitat for Humanity

We have an active team that helps build homes for Habitat and works closely with other Lutheran churches in the Roanoke Valley along with Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Skilled labor, workers, and food preparers are always welcome! We build every Wednesday and Saturday. Shepherd: Jim McCarthy

Hurt Park Elementary

A true “grass roots” local outreach can be witnessed through the volunteers who faithfully support the teachers, students and staff at Hurt Park Elementary School in Roanoke. Many tutors, story readers, and classroom “parent” volunteers have stepped forward to help these children succeed. Many others have provided school supplies and more are welcome. Shepherd: Patti Henkel

InterFaith Hospitality

We participate with just over 30 local houses of worship to provide temporary housing and meals to families in transition. Each congregation provides private rooms, meals and volunteers for a week at a time throughout the year. Find out how to support these guests by contacting Shane and Cindy Maish.

Lutheran Family Services of VA

We support Lutheran Family Services of Virginia as they live out their mission: To express God's love by providing services and assistance to empower communities, families and individuals in their journey to well-being. Learn more at www.lfsva.org

RAM House

The RAM House (Roanoke Area Ministries) is an ecumenical, urban ministry that serves the Roanoke Valley by providing safe shelter for the homeless, a nutritious lunch, and emergency financial aid to those in need. The first Friday and fifth Tuesday of every month, you’ll find a team from St. John serving lunch at RAM House. Contact the church office to join this team.

Refugee Services

Members support the integration of immigrant families into our community through the local Refugee and Immigration Services office. We collect household items and sponsor some of the families settling in the Roanoke Valley. For more information about Refugee Services, contact www.risva.org or 540-342-7561.

Rescue Mission

The Rescue Mission is a Christ-centered, grassroots organization offering programs to help people physically, psychologically, socially and spiritually. The programs involve personal responsibility, self-determination and an internal transformation of values and vision resulting in a restoration of self-respect. The homeless, the hungry, the sick, the addicted, the abused and the hopeless have all found a warm welcome at the Rescue Mission. You’ll find St. John serving lunch at the Rescue Mission on the First Fridays and fifth Tuesdays of every month. Call the church office to join this team.

TouchPoint Contemporary Christian Band
