“Sing to Him a new song; play skillfully and shout for joy!” Psalm 33:31
The words of this Psalm are the best description of what the Praise & Worship Team strives to do each Sunday in our worship services. As lead worshippers for the contemporary services, our desire is to exalt, praise and glorify the name of Jesus through music and worship. We are a joyful group of believers who are dedicated to ushering others into the presence of the Lord where they may fully participate in worship and experience a life-changing encounter with Jesus. We use songs to bring people together in singing prayers to God. Our worship is the expression of those prayers. Praising and worshipping God through music is our joyful response to God’s grace, goodness and love. We invite you to be a part of our Praise & Worship Team family.
The Praise & Worship Team consists of singers and instrumentalists: keyboard, guitar (electric & acoustic), bass, drums, percussion, horns, strings and woodwinds. Rehearsals are Thursday evenings from 7 pm – 9 pm for the Sunday morning services and 4:00 pm Sunday afternoon for the 5:00 pm service.
Contact MarLane Knuppel, Music Minister for the Contemporary Services for more information on how you can get involved.
Music ministry is also accomplished through our Christian outreach band, TouchPoint.
Chancel Choir
The Chancel Choir sings at the Sanctuary services at 8:15 and 11:00 am Sunday mornings. Music is at the heart of worship and enhances our relationship with God and one another. The choir is open to anyone who enjoys singing, has some ability to read music or is willing to learn with some guidance.
Rehearsals are held Wednesday evenings, 7:30 - 9:00 pm, from September through May. Consider joining us as we share our talents through hymns, anthems and special music that support an uplifting worship experience. We invite instrumentalists to offer their musical gifts as part of the traditional worship setting. Contact Keith Reed for more information. keith@stjohnlutheran.org
Handbell Choir
Handbells are beautiful to the ear and captivating to the eye. Adults and youth are invited to be part of the Handbell Choir. There is no age limit to participate in this very rewarding experience. Weekly rehearsals are seasonal. Contact Keith Reed for more details.
To get started, the ability to read music is a plus, but not necessary as instruction by the group’s director is always available during rehearsals. Handbells add a spiritual musical dimension to our worship experience, and are played for preludes or as accompaniment to anthems.
It is a marvelous opportunity for those interested in expressing their desire to become musically involved beyond singing. Contact Keith Reed at keith@stjohnlutheran.org to join this musical team.
Children’s Choirs
Many special things are happening with the Children’s Choir ministry! We have two groups who rehearse Wednesday evenings during the school year. The Kindergarten through 2nd Grade combines with the 3rd-5th Grade to rehearse from 5:45-7:00 pm. Our activities include vocal, instruments and rhythmic musical experiences. Our goal is to become familiar with the music of the different seasons and celebrations of the church year. We provide music for one church service each month and music for the children’s Christmas Eve service. We enjoy offering performances at Easter and Christmas, each year, for the church family. Leaders are Keith Reed and Vicki Paxton.
Multimedia Team
During the Sunday morning Contemporary services in the Great Room, a team of sound and media ministers are working behind the scenes to ensure that all the messages are communicated well to the church body: from the sermon lessons to the music, to the scripture readings for the day, to the announcements for the week. Our sound ministers run the soundboard and oversee all the necessary connections required to make the sound in the Great Room effective. The Media ministers run the Media Shout computer program during the services giving visual effect to all components of the worship service through the large screen projector. We invite you to be a part of our Multi-Media Sound Team. Contact MarLane@StJohnLutheran.org if you’re interested.
