Mark and his wife, Rena, met in college and were married in 1979 right after graduation. God has blessed them with two daughters and sons-in-law, Emily and Jon and Kate and Dave. And they have two grandsons on the way!
Mark experienced God’s calling into pastoral ministry as a teenager through the nurturing of his parents, his home Lutheran congregation, and the influences of the Holy Spirit in a youth-led Bible study. He holds a B.A. in Greek from the College of William and Mary, a Master of Divinity degree from Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Columbia Theological Seminary.
In addition to his time with his wife, children, and the church family, he enjoys running, reading, traveling, and sports. His "life verse" is Matthew 6.33, and he gives thanks to his Lord Jesus Christ for the abundant blessings of faith, family, and life.
Called to serve St. John as pastor in 1987, Mark continues to rejoice in the privilege of serving this wonderful congregation. His passion centers on preaching and teaching the Word of God as he emphasizes the authority and beauty of the Scriptures in all matters of life and faith.
